Bella Luna lace wedding gowns may feature corded French-Style lace, Guipure lace, embroidered lace, lace appliqués, dimensional 3D floral details and beaded or embellished lace, depending on the individual design. Fine Chantilly lace may also be used beneath outer lace or tulle layers to add subtle pattern, depth and richness to the finished gown.

Corded lace has raised threads outlining portions of the lace pattern, giving floral, botanical or ornamental motifs greater definition, texture and dimension. This additional cording creates a richer, more sculpted appearance and allows the lace pattern to stand out beautifully across a bridal bodice, skirt or train.

Non-corded lace has a flatter, softer surface without the raised outlining threads. Its beauty comes primarily from the woven or embroidered pattern itself, creating a lighter and often more delicate appearance.

Corded lace is generally a more premium and considerably more expensive bridal textile, and we frequently select it for Bella Luna gowns when we want an especially rich, dimensional and couture finish. The additional texture and definition can make the difference between lace that appears delicate and flat and lace that feels substantial, luxurious and visually striking.

That said, all lace used throughout the Bella Luna bridal collection is carefully selected bridal-grade, premium-quality lace. Whether a design calls for French-style corded lace, embroidered lace, Guipure, appliqué work or a finer non-corded lace used for layering, we select the material according to the effect, construction and level of refinement intended for the gown.

French-style corded lace typically features floral or ornamental motifs arranged over a fine net or lace ground, with raised cording outlining portions of the pattern to create added texture, definition and dimension. This gives the lace a refined, intricate appearance while still allowing the background to remain soft and delicate.

Guipure lace is constructed differently. Its motifs are connected directly to one another without a traditional fine net background, creating a bolder, more substantial and openwork appearance. Because of its structure, Guipure often feels heavier and more architectural, while French-style corded lace tends to appear finer, more detailed and more layered.

Both can create a luxurious couture effect; the choice depends on whether the gown calls for delicate dimensional detail or a stronger, more sculptural lace texture.

Embroidered lace is created by stitching decorative motifs onto a tulle, net or lace ground. Lace appliqué uses individual lace motifs that are cut and strategically positioned over another fabric such as tulle, illusion mesh, organza or satin. Appliqués may themselves be embroidered, beaded or dimensional.

Beaded lace is lace that has been further decorated with elements such as sequins, pearls, crystals, rhinestones or decorative beads. Beading describes the embellishment applied to the lace rather than one specific lace construction, so French lace, embroidered lace and lace appliqués can all be beaded.

Yes. Select lace wedding gowns can be customized with additional lining or coverage, but the choice of underlayer can noticeably change how the lace appears. Lace patterns often look most defined when there is some contrast between the lace and the layer beneath it. Placing an opaque ivory or off-white lining directly beneath ivory lace reduces that contrast, creating a more tonal, traditional look in which the individual lace motifs may appear softer and less pronounced.

Brides who want additional coverage while still allowing the lace pattern to stand out may choose a nude, blush or skin-tone underlayer. A few layers of soft nude tulle can create a more translucent, airy effect while reducing the appearance of completely bare skin, whereas a solid nude lining provides greater opacity and coverage while still creating contrast behind the lace. Warm nude or champagne-toned underlayers can also give a gown a romantic, vintage-inspired appearance.

For areas such as sheer bodices, illusion necklines or backs, fine nude illusion mesh can provide a subtle layer between the lace and the skin while preserving much of the contrast that makes the lace design visible.

Because lining can change the color, depth, transparency and overall appearance of a lace wedding gown, we recommend choosing the underlayer based on the specific lace and the finished bridal look you would like to achieve.

Custom bridal production may require up to approximately 16 weeks, depending on the gown, lace availability, design complexity and requested modifications. We recommend ordering approximately five to six months before your wedding whenever possible to allow additional time for production, shipping and any preferred local finishing alterations.

A made-to-measure gown is created using the measurements you provide, but it is not the same as having multiple in-person fittings with a local seamstress. Some brides may still choose minor alterations after delivery for personal fit preferences, posture, undergarments or other individual considerations.
